My thoughts on Picasso’s Guernica (before knowing its background)

Guernica by Pablo Picasso

Guernica by Pablo Picasso The colors used in the painting suggest a grim scene. The people’s faces look surprised or agonized by something maybe they are being unexpectedly attacked or a fight broke out either way something grim happened. The painting also suggests what ever disaster touched this rural town touched at night since the lights are set apart from the dark. Innocent people must have also been harmed since the baby is dead in its grieving mother’s arms. The town looks rural due the thatched appearance of the roof to the left and the livestock scattered throughout the painting. The scene seems to depict chaos.
